Beauty and the Bump

This is Aubrie...not only is she a stunning beauty on the outside, she has a beautiful kind heart that radiates.  Aubrie is not a typical  client of mine...although she started out as one ( I shot her engagments and wedding a few years back). She then became my photo intern, then my photo assistant, and now is the adored Nanny of my 3 children.  You can say she became my right hand women.  She has seen my good, bad and even the ugly (no makeup , no bra..yikes!) ...and still sticks around. I have watched her kindness, patience and tenderness with my own children, and could not be happier for her and her husband as they get to become parents to a new sweet baby.  She will be a simply terrific mother:) Thank-you Aubrie, for everything!  If you ever get bored with that wee little one and are curious what having 4 kiddos is like...I can arrange that for you!

Last Minute Halloween Inspiration!

No Costume?  Need a fun last minute idea? With a hot glue gun and a little imagination you can create almost anything!  These costumes are inspired by the board games that everyone played growing up.   CandyLand -Monopoly- Twister -Clue!   These are currently on display at the Grand America toy store: Jou Jou in Salt Lake City. For all the Costumes I purchased the body of the dress or suit jacket and went to town, basically decorating and adding elements that would bring out the details of the board games. You can really go with something as simple as cut paper circles added to the Twister girl, or a little more complex like mod-podging monopoly money to a suit to make a million dollar man! These no sew options are simple, creative and original...so plug in that hot glue gun...get going... and in a few hours, you can have a costume that is sure to be a hit this Halloween!   Happy Haunting! Rocky Mountian Tea Party.....

Okay... I am officially the worst blogger ever!  I have about 30 plus shoots I need to post, but it seems like mom duties...diapers, dishes, laundry have taken priority.   Anyhow, blah...blah..blah..   I am so excited to share these adorable images of two of the sweetest and sassiest sisters!   These true little country girls ride horses and catch fish, but when it's tea party time they can be refined as roses:)  I just loved every minute with these blue eyed beauties!

FROZEN...in my heart forever!

With a needle and thread, some paint, a ton of frozen water and a whole lot of love...I was able to make my 4 year old Nora's wildest dreams come true!  If you have a child, chances are you have been overtaken by the magic of the movie "FROZEN".  You can probably belt out the words to "Let it go" right along with your kids at the top of your lungs.   Children everywhere have identified with this message of hope and freedom.  Every little girl wants to be Elsa.  I see the passion my little one has for this character on a daily basis. That's why I thought it would be priceless to create an ELSA day for her:)

I'm an artist and photographer, but above all I'm a Mom.  And as a mother I firmly believe that childhood should be as whimsical and magical as possible.  Because...as we adults know, our imaginations are fleeting and the grown-up world creeps in all too soon.  Little ones only have a few brief years of being truly wonder-struck by something as simple as dressing up and playing pretend.

So as I sat in my sewing room, occasionally ignoring little people who were hungry, bored and looking for that missing shoe.  I quietly sang..."Let me Sew, Let me Sew.. Turn around and shut that door!" Within a few weeks Nora's homemade costumes were finally complete. Then with a dab of lip-gloss, a swipe of mascara, and fancy hairdo. My sweet 4 year old was transformed into the real life "Elsa".

We were literally standing on snow and ice in the freezing air.  Was she cold?  No way, she was Elsa...the cold would not bother her.  I just sat there and snapped pictures as she sang and acted out her favorite scenes from "FROZEN".   And just like a lovely snowflake in the palm of my hand I knew the beauty of this day was rare, and would all too soon melt away.
As we drove home she started to drift off to sleep, but right before she closed her big blue eyes she said, " Momma, that was the best day of my life."  Oh how I wish I could just "freeze" her at this age and in that moment... forever:)
